Can I do this effect with a ver. R12 ?
You could do it with XP v2 just not the new 2.5 version.
it’s a great tutorial but I have not the Emit from “TEXTURE” is it possible to make with xparticles 2.0 ( can you xplain to me how you do or where “texture” is located with 2.0 please ?)
If you watch my tutorial 09, I’m using XP v2 to emit from the texture.

Ihave R15 and X-particles V2.. i’m not found that (Emit From -> texture) I can find it Polygon area, but it doesnt work at all.

Yep, Incorrect file structure.. The project file has been corrupted.
I also had a similar error with X-Particles.. When I tried to save a file with the cache.. The program even hangs trying to save the project, then made a huge size file (something around 2.7 gigabytes) and then the project just did not open with the same error message..

Hey.I Check out Tutorial 09.But the particles is not emit along the edge.
If I turn the color channel to none.the particles will not emit.
The question nagged me for days.

To emit particles from Luminance with XP 2 just do this :
–> Emit From : Polygon Area
–> Texture Tag : Drag your texture here.
–> Emit Channel : Transparency
–> Color Channel : Luminance.
But, the part with the Spawner seems a little bit difficulte with XP2. All the particles are emitt from frame 0. They doesn’t care about the original emitter :/

I have a question on a similar theme. Is there a possibility to make similar effect as in the video (link below) but using X-Particle..? The method using animated texture is good, but how to do that the polygons would really turn into particles? Is there an alternative to this PFragment node from Thinking Particles xpresso? Ben.., can you do a tutorial, please?

Hi Serge, You could definitely do this with X-Particles. The method that comes to mind is using the new fragmenter modifier in XP 2.5.

As Ben says, the answer to using XP 2 to emit from the Luminance channel is in his tutorial 9:
(1) Set Emit Channel: Luminance.
(2) Set Threshold (colour) to mid grey value of RGB 128/128/128
(3) Set Mode: Texture Color >= Threshold.

When I get to the spawn emitter, the new particles won’t emit from the texture. They start at frame 1 and are visible the entire time.
I’m sending an email with the file.
Just do a free update to XP 2.5 Problem solved.
